RDP Thursday: displace

Written for RDP where bushboy asks us to
get creative with the word “displace”.
Thanks, Brian!

Last week I told you about a large old tree which fell in the nature preserve near our house. Quite a few animals were scared off and settled in various backyards in the area, including ours. While we loved having these displaced guests with us, I’m happy to report they have all returned to their homes in the preserve …. all except for a pair of woodchucks who decided mom was too pregnant to travel and instead chose to hunker down and have her babies in a comfy area behind the shed at the end of our yard. We’ve named them Fred and Wilma.

It’s a peaceful feeling knowing everything in their small world is exactly as it should be.

  1. it must have been quite a large tree…. glad it did no damage except to those whose home no longer exists… happy to hear they all went back except for two… possibly they soon will go back and all will be well again

    1. It was a very large tree on the edge of the preserve which pulled down electrical and telephone wires as it fell. We believe it was the impact that frightened the animals away. As cute as our guests are, we’re glad to see them ‘going home’.

  2. You have a lovely yard Nancy no wonder they wanted to stay.
I read a post a while ago about Woodchucks under their house and were causing all sorts of problems to the piers and structure of their house. They had to get “animal control” to remove them.
I couldn’t believe how big they are. I hope they don’t eat your garden too much.
Thanks for joining in RDP 😀

    1. That is a concern, of course. Luckily, they seem quite content keeping a good distance from the house. We aren’t feeding them or encouraging them to stay and we’re aware of the potential problems.. We think once the babies are big enough, they’ll take off, hopefully back to the preserve. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Brian. Always great fun to participate when I can. 😊

  3. Oh well, all’s well and ends well my dear friend … feeling a bit ‘displaced’ myself, I just can’t catch up with my blogging … it’s 11.15pm, so best I go to bed, before I get too rusty …
