Written for dVerse Poets Pub – Introducing:
An Eight Year Old Artist – Azul. Our host,
Lillian, asks us to choose one of Azul’s
paintings and write an ekphrastic poem.

A vibrant sky of scarlet red and gold
Sinks low behind the fading summer heat,
As two dark figures, tentative yet bold,
Step forward where the earth and shadows meet.
Beside the fence, beneath a sweeping tree,
The low sun watches as they slowly lean,
Locking a fleeting moment, wild and free,
Within the sweetness of this evening scene.
The pale white orb illuminates the ground,
A silent witness frozen in the sky,
While heavy, painted darkness wraps around
The secret breath of lovers passing by.
The waxen layers hold them ever fast,
A crimson crayon bleeding overhead,
To make a brief embrace forever last,
Long after all the sunset fires have fled.

I love how you play with the concept of permanence versus transience and the interplay of light and shadow
