Siren wails pierced the air, but beneath the makeshift chuppah in a dim basement, time stood still. Miriam tightened her grip on Lev’s trembling hand. Outside, the shadow of war threatened to swallow everything, yet inside, four family members held up the embroidered prayer shawl, creating a sacred sanctuary against the darkness.
With a whispered blessing, Lev crushed a brass bulb underfoot…. a substitute for glass in a world already shattered. A sharp crack echoed off the damp stone walls. “Mazel tov,” they breathed in unison.
Their defiance was silent, beautiful, and unbreakable: loving each other while the world burned.
