Written for Sunday Whirl Wordle.
Here are Brenda’s prompt words:
voicemails ~ high ~ exhale ~ wind ~ begin ~ unaware
scared ~ glows ~ ghost ~ storm ~ story ~ lotus

I am unaware of the sky changing
until the wind finds the window
and begins an argument with the glass.
My phone is full of voicemails
I have not played back ….
a small ghost lives in there,
patient, unhurried, high
on the idea that I’ll listen someday.
Storms love to barge in unannounced.
I watch the trees as they exhale
their leaves like a held breath finally let go,
and I am scared, a little,
of what has yet to break
Still …. the lotus in the yard
glows through the rain,
unbothered,
already writing
its own story
about the weather.

Nice! I like finally settling down into image of the brightly burning lotus.

Thanks, Liz! I wasn’t sure about the way that image came out …. the lotus was bigger than I imagined …. but it’s “grown” on me. I’m glad you like it. 🪷

Yeah, for the King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard … simply electrifying my friend … just like your poem … I found a number of good “Lotus” songs, R.E.M – Lotus, Seon – Lotus, and Radiohead – Lotus Flower …

Great verse Nance – I love how you describe that quiet state of avoidance – how we drift in our own heads until the physical world forces its way back in🙌

I love the way you put that, Ange …. “quiet state of avoidance” …. a comfort zone that’s way too easy to fall into! 😄 So pleased you enjoyed my poem; thank you! ☺️
