La Casa Azzurra

Written for Tanka Tuesday where our host,
Colleen, asks us to write a bussokuseki, a tanka
with an additional 7-syllable line at the end.
Inspired by an image by my amici at Blog 57.

blue house by the stream
leans into evening’s amber
light on old brick walls
the canal mirrors its blue
just as bright, just as quiet
steeples watch the slow water

  1. blue comes in many different shades…. it fits perfectly amongst the more monotone… i can’t help but wonder did they run out of paint or desire to finish… though i do love the way it shouts without a sound next to a calm glassy river without making a quiver… love your tanka

  3. the combination of the wonderful picture and your lovely poem, inspired to write these words my dear friend.
    “I woke up this morning
    with blue surrounding my bed,
quietly filtering through the blue drapes –
    there beaming down from dawn’s
    levitating, bright blue sky
And so, I do not need to ask why
    the tranquil colour blue,
    serendipitously keeps me flying high.”
