Written for dVerse Poets Quadrille
Monday – “Swearing by all Flowers”
where our host, De Jackson, has offered
up the word “flowers”. Image courtesy
Crispina Kemp. Here is my quadrille.

Beneath the thaw,
green spikes pierce winter’s veil.
Each flower bows its head,
a silent bell ringing in
the season.
Dormant earth remembers how
to wake,
how to offer tender witness;
proof that cold cannot
last forever,
that buried things will always
rise again.

Each thing to its season, again and again. There is comfort in that. Good poem, Nancy.

My wife lost all of her tropicals in the yard. It will be expensive and very labor intensive to get yard looking right again.

That’s a damn shame! No one was really ready for this arctic blast.

Aren’t they precious? I have a memory of picking them and Lilies of the Valley for my mother when I was very young, not even in school; she put them in an old jelly jar which she used as a vase and placed it in the middle of the table. I was so pleased and proud.

Ah, what a nice memory!
Lillies of the valley were my mom’s favorite flower. I picked her a little bouquet the day before she died. I like to think she could still smell them.

I saw that New York finally got temperatures above freezing, but I guess it will take some time for all the snow to melt.

Yes, we did but there’s too much snow and the sun wasn’t shining today so it still felt cold …. nothing like the 4º we dropped to in January but cold enough. I think tomorrow will be nicer than today.
