Beneath the thaw,
green spikes pierce winter’s veil.
Each flower bows its head,
a silent bell ringing in
the season.
Dormant earth remembers how
to wake,
how to offer tender witness;
proof that cold cannot
last forever,
that buried things will always
rise again.

    1. Aren’t they precious? I have a memory of picking them and Lilies of the Valley for my mother when I was very young, not even in school; she put them in an old jelly jar which she used as a vase and placed it in the middle of the table. I was so pleased and proud.
