Colour Challenge – “lilac”.

Recently, my 6-year-old granddaughter and I went to the nail salon. In a moment of insanity, I chose a bright yellow polish (think emojis). I’m usually not a yellow person, at least not that yellow, and everyone was surprised. What was I thinking? Summer’s almost over! My granddaughter announced “Grammy! That’s my favorite shade of yellow. Can we trade my lilac nail polish for your yellow?” Of course, I readily agreed. And then she said something that left me speechless: “Good decision. The lilac is much more age-appropriate for you.”

She’s smart as a whip and things like this happen regularly. Still, I’m often taken aback by her vocabulary and delivery and laugh in spite of myself. My granddaughter is a treasure. Thank you, dear Keith. 🥰

I shared this with My Beloved Sandra, who recently took her (great-)grand-daughter for her 1st manicure… She (as did I) loved it.

They say we are born with all the knowledge in the world and we lose it all as we grow older…they also say as Ernie Dawg says “out of the mouths of babes and suckling comes knowledge”…. there’s another train of thought that says “Cheeky Madam”. Either way it worked out to everyone’s satisfaction…. personally I think you should have both had the yellow and let age appropriate go hang. Both your nails look lovely 🌹🌹

Hahaha! That’s a brilliant comment, sis. We all brag about kids and grandkids but I can’t say enough about Colette. She really is as bright, clever and funny as I describe. And some day I will definitely get that yellow! 💛

Such an “adult” comment from a six year old!

To someone who doesn’t know Colette, that’s a reasonable comment. Her vocab is quite remarkable, due in no small part to the fact that her parents will only talk to her as an adult. As an only child, they have lots of time to devote to her reading and vocab skills; additionally, her dad is a well-spoken and well-read librarian and her mom is a doctor who explains things carefully and clearly. There’s no such thing as a “boo boo” …. it’s an abrasion or a wound. If you could listen in while we’re playing doctor with her Barbie dolls, you’d likely burst out laughing, as I often do. Last week, Barbie needed an “infusion”, “abdominal surgery”, as well as a tooth “extraction”. I never know what to expect from Colette but it’s guaranteed to impress.

My six year old grandson occasionally surprises me with his insightful observations, but his parents (my son and daughter in law) still refer to cuts, bumps, and bruises as “owies.”
