Written for dVerse Quadrille –
“X Marks the Spot”. Our host,
Melissa, invites us to write a
quadrille with the word ”xenolith”.

Night opens it’s quiet hands,
scattering stars across my doubt.
I carry a xenolith inside,
something ancient,
foreign, unbroken.
Morning finds me listening
to rivers beneath the pavement,
wondering whether belonging
means staying or simply
being held
while everything else
becomes a new
tomorrow.

A lovely quadrille ~~ does belonging mean staying or being held … what a provocative question. Well done!!!

A lovely choice of music to accompany your delightful quadrille, Nancy. I was hooked by the night opening its ‘quiet hands, scattering stars’ across doubt, and identify with the ‘xenolith inside’ ancient and unbroken, and ‘wondering whether belonging means staying or simply being held’ resonates with me.
