At Great Minds Think – Highlight Reel,
Sarah & Rohini ask ‘How do you
want to be immortalized?’

I have thought about stone, of marble and bronze, about the careful chisel of a name into something that will outlast the hand that carved it. But stone only holds a shape; it does not remember.
Let me be remembered as music …. something that doesn’t just mark that a person lived, but makes another person feel something, the way a chord change can catch you off guard and loosen something in your chest before you even know why. I want to be the kind of memory that moves people …. to smile, to dance, to reflect, to climb, to cry.
Let the song lyrics carry the parts of me that mattered …. not what I built or earned, but how I lived and how I loved. Let it be warm. Let it hold the people I held. And let there be a joke tucked somewhere in the bridge …. a chuckle, a punchline …. because I don’t want to be remembered as only poignant and tender …. I want to be remembered as being fun, too. And funny. A soul that could hold both an ache and a laugh in the same breath.
If someone hums me years from now without even remembering where the tune came from …. that’s enough. That’s more than a name carved into stone could ever do.
years gone, they still sing ….
my name a scant memory,
but not the feelings

So beautiful my soul sister. I particularly love the phrase “A soul that could hold both an ache and a laugh in the same breath.” so beautiful.

Your response is exquisite, Nancy. You transformed the prompt from a question about legacy into a meditation on what truly endures. The contrast between stone and music is especially beautiful – one preserves form, while the other preserves feeling.
I love the idea that a life is best remembered not by monuments or accolades, but by the emotions it leaves behind in others: a smile, a tear, a burst of laughter, a quiet moment of reflection. The image of a joke hidden in the bridge is such a lovely touch because it reminds us that the richest lives are rarely only solemn or inspiring; they are wonderfully human, carrying both tenderness and mischief in equal measure.
And that closing thought is hauntingly beautiful – to be forgotten in name, yet remembered in feeling. Perhaps that is the truest kind of immortality, not being etched into marble, but becoming a melody that lingers long after the singer.
Lots of Love,
Ro

Ro, thank you for these beautiful comments!
Music has been a huge part of my life since I was a child and I can’t imagine life without it. I believe it is the one thing that binds us together; whether it’s just two people listening to a romantic love song or thousands of people at a concert, the effect is the same. We are creating and sharing life moments that will be remembered.
I am greatly moved by you gracious words. Many thanks for appreciating my efforts and for sharing your thoughts. 🥰
