Our gracious host, Rochelle, is asking us to get
creative in 100 words or less using the photo
seen below. Welcome to Friday Fictioneers.
This is where the prompt took me.

We’d been warned the eye would come. Not a storm exactly… something far older.
I watched from my apartment window as the cloud descended… not falling, but arriving, deliberate as a fist. The mountains behind the town had gone quiet. Even the cars below had stopped moving.
I recognized this kind of thing. It wasn’t weather; it was judgment.
The white wisps above scattered like startled birds fleeing the darkness rising from below.
My neighbor knocked. “Should we leave?”
I pressed my palm against the cold window glass.
“Too late,” I said. “It’s already here.”
Outside, the first thunder answered.

A wonderfully chilling tale, Nancy. Well-done! And a great song to boot. 🙂

Dear Nancy,
This well-told piece sent chills through me. Deliberate as a fist. Good line. Great song to go with your story.

Dear Rochelle – Fortunately, I haven’t been punched since I was a kid on the playground but I know a well-landed one leaves a doozy of a shiner. Thanks for your gracious comments and for sharing your thoughts; Jim and the boys sure do make for good listening!

Nancy, good atmospheric conjuring and tension building. I wonder why they are being judged and what the sentence will be.

I could feel the ominousness of the situation. Of course, why do we wait until it’s too late?

Isn’t that always the case? All it takes is one error in judgement and finito! Grazie, cara amica.
