Written for RDP, where segoil asks us
to get creative with the word “foliage”.
Thanks, Heather! Here’s where the prompt took me.

The weather here in our part of New York State (Southern Westchester County) has been most favorable, with new growth every day.

We discovered a family of groundhogs happily chomping on the new foliage in our backyard. This photo shows one of the groundhog babies we call George. There’s one more baby groundhog who was not available for yesterday’s photo shoot; her name is Gracie.
Caught here mid-nap is baby deer Deirdra.

Yes, we get attached to our backyard guests!

How lovely!
Very few creatures attempt the long climb up the 60 concrete steps to my appartment, although a few summers ago there was a fox that used appear at my door and even enter it when left open! We became quite good friends.

What a treat for you! Foxes are usually shy and skittish when people are near; your visitor must have feel quite safe around you to stroll inside. Thanks, dear Keith.

I remember feeding all of the animals that came into my backyard in New Jersey, but I never named any of them and I think it is cool that you did that, Nancy.

I’m a softy from way back, Jim. ☺️ Except for the birds, we don’t feed any of the animals. There’s an abundance of flowers and greens to eat and a few fruit trees; whatever falls to the ground is up for grabs!

George and Gracie–so cute! The most wild we get is the owls and hawks that frequent the trees across the street. Once we had a fox in the woods. Made the front page of the local paper!

Haha! We live on the edge of a nature trail and every once in a while, the denizens get displaced and find shelter in the area’s various backyards. I’ve seen a red fox and wild turkeys but the one that un-nerves me is the hawk. Given the chance, they will swoop in and carry off any small animal in their path …. dogs and cats, too!
