Written for Reena’s Xploration Challenge;
the image shown below with its caption was
my inspiration. Here’s where the prompt took me.

Image from Reena’s Xploration Challenge
In the outline, she found silence
glass cold
tracing the ghost of who she was before
light bends
a woman reaching for her own reflection
hands press
the mirror holds what memory refuses
breath stills
she stands inside the shape of her recollection
she knows.

Nancy’s Notes: the Waltmarie poetic form consists of 10 lines. Even lines are two syllables in length, odd lines are longer with no specific syllable count. Even lines make their own mini-poem if read separately.
This is “Girl In The Mirror” by Megan Moroney
Everything on The Elephant’s Trunk was created by me, unless otherwise indicated. Thanks for your consideration. NAR©2017-present.

What a fun prompt, and you did a great job!

Thank you very much, Esther. I have only written a Waltmarie once before, and that was for a dVerse Poets challenge. I thought it would be a good choice for this challenge as well.

A very interesting format, maybe I’ll give it a go one day, and poem is an excellent example of how to write one …
