Written for Davidβs Weave Written Weakly #190
where Sally has prompted us to write a sonnet
including a line from William Wordsworthβs
βThe World Is Too Much With Usβ.
This is my response. Thanks, Sally!
In The Cold
Today at dVerse we are asked to
write a haibun that alludes to
breath, breathing, or to breathe.

The weather seems colder these days, perhaps that’s because Iβm getting older.
As we briskly walk we can see our breath in the air when we talk and we laugh at my memory, just a fleeting sensory thought.
As kids weβd joke, pretending to be grownups who smoke in the cold.
A gentle snow fall
Crystalline flakes on my tongue
Breathing in the cold
