The Drawer

poem built around questions that remain
unanswered. Here is my response.

Who tied the ribbon …. steady hands or shaking?
What season pressed that rose until it dried?
Which words were read so often they stopped meaning,
and which were folded shut, left still inside?

Did someone wait by windows for an answer?
Do coins remember what they once were worth?
And does the one who kept these know we’re wondering
or did they take the questions back to earth?
