California Dreamin’

Written for dVerse Poets Quadrille
Monday
– “Swearing by all Flowers”
where our host, De Jackson, has offered
up the word “flowers”. Here is my quadrille.

They met on Haight Street,
guitars slung
across shoulders
like rifles turned to flowers,
jackets emblazoned with
peace and love.
The war raged elsewhere;
here, they made noise that
felt like peace,
four strangers becoming
brothers in three chords,
believing music could change
everything.

  1. LOVE this. Only slightly too young to have been part of it all, but I would have ROCKED those flowers in my hair, and a low-slung guitar.

    My favorite:

    guitars slung
    across shoulders
    like rifles turned to flowers

    PERFECTION.
