Our gracious host, Rochelle, at Friday Fictioneers
asks us to use the photo below as inspiration
to write creatively in 100 words or less while
making every word count. This is my flash.

It was a rough year for Bob.
His wife divorced him and cleaned out their bank account. His girlfriend took his car and ran off with his dog. Why, his own mother moved and left no forwarding address.
But Bob still had his lucky dime. All he needed was one break.
After a night sleeping in the alley, he woke up to a vision – a bright shiny red phonebooth beckoning him.
As in a trance he entered the booth; scribbled on the wall was a number. His call was answered by a sultry female voice.
“What took you so long?”

Reads more like a country song. (haha)

Dear Nancy,
I couldn’t help but think that if you backmasted this story his wife and girlfriend would come back…with the car and the dog. And his mother would move back in.
I hope the voice at the other end is glad tidings for him.
Fun stuff.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Oh, I’m sure Bob would like his car and dog back again, Rochelle; I can’t say the same for the wife, girlfriend or even dear old mom!
He strikes me as one of those guys who’s constantly falling down and getting back up again. He doesn’t get very far but to him it feels like progress.
Thanks so much, Rochelle
Shalom,

Very cool what I will call Musical Flash Fiction.

That’s exactly what it is, Lisa; I really should include that tag in my descriptors …. it’s excellent! As soon as I saw the image, that great song by Robert Cray came into my mind. The songs I feature with my stories are almost as important as the words I write so I love when that happens, when songs speak to us. Thanks very much for a great comment, Lisa!

Do you supposed there is a deep and sexy male voice option?
Asking for a friend….
Wonderful short, amica mia! Haven’t heard any Robert Cray in a loooong time! Thanks for that!

Absolutely! I wouldn’t mind hearing Colin Farrell on the other end of the line, how about you?
I’m thinking of changing my GPS to a male voice but we all know men are awful with directions! LOL!!
Robert Cray kicks serious ass!
Grazie, amica mia! Buona pasqua.🕊️

That would be rather lovely. I might like Gerard Butler a tad more 😉

wow, how cool to know about this jazzy phone booth song! And it fit so well into the story – and the cost of the call being still a dime. Good luck to Bob!

Haven’t heard “Phone Booth” in a long time. I remember I got one of those cheap records in Guitar Player of him and Eric Clapton playing it.

Yeah, they did duet on this song. It’s a great piece of guitar-playing by Cray and I liked it for this story. Thanks, John.

You and I see things so differently, except when it comes to Song Lyric Sunday choices. I see an old phone booth transformed into a vertical garden and write about what I see. You look at the same old phone booth and write a creative, imaginative tale that comes from such a fertile mind. I want to write more like you when I grow up.

Must have been all the fertilizer I ingested in my mis-spent youth. They say that shit can have longterm side effects. 😎
All kidding aside, I am deeply touched by your comments, Fan. For as long as I can remember I’ve been writing stories and making up songs. Having the ability to entertaining myself and others is extremely gratifying. Thank you very much for your kind and gracious words.

Love this story. Me thinks she’ll be expecting more than a dime for her services but I’m a cynic.

As long as the voice doesn’t ask him to deposit another dime, Bob should be good!

I’ve got the feeling that whatever took him so long to make the call, it will probably not take so long to …. er… Still, any port in a storm. Good one.
