His Jealous Mother

Written for dVerse Poets – Quadrille Monday 209 – Plucking Strings
Our host Lisa asks us to include the word “string(s)” in our piece.
This is my free verse poem based on a true story as told by my mother
.

My father’s mother hated my mother for marrying her son.

Returning from their honeymoon, my parents visited her mother, then his mother.

When his mother opened the door, she pushed my mother down the stairs, breaking the string of pearls around my mother’s neck.

Memories of Me

Written for dVerse Quadrille Monday #206.
Our prompt word is β€˜bend; here is my poem.

I long to be myself again,
before the pain began.
Now wistfully staring at
old photos
of a younger me,
lithe with slender arms
and shapely legs
which once did bend
with graceful ease.
Dancing dreams fill my nights;
I want to sleep forever.

On Bended Knee

Lillian, tonight’s Pub Master, is hosting Quadrille Monday
at the dVerse Poets Pub. We’re asked to create a 44-word
poem using the word β€œfigment”. Here’s my poem.

She knelt
down on
bended
knee

Heard a
voice say
β€œCome to me”

It’s just a
figment,
this can’t be

A voice that
sounded
just like he

β€œI think
 I will count
to three

Then of his
ghost
I will be
free

One, two….”

Anticipation: Dectina Refrain

Written for Quadrille Monday dVerse Poets Pub; De Jackson is
asking us to create a 44-word poem using the word β€œFriday”.

My poem is a Dectina Refrain:
1st line is 1 syllable, 2nd line is 2 syllables
3rd line is 3 syllables, and so on for 9 lines;
the 10th line is comprised of the first four lines

as one stand-alone sentence.

Our
Friday
night dinner
we wait all week
to sit on the couch
and eat sexy pizza
with cheese like hot melted love,
gooey and deliciously good,
and we drink tall glasses of red wine.
Our Friday night dinner we wait all week
