This image of the Old Allegheny County
Jail on Dan Antion’s No Facilities site
caught my eye and interested me
enough to write a story. Also written
for RDP and today’s word – “brittle”.

Within these walls of ancient stone,
The shadows cast a heavy chill,
Where hollow whispers weep and moan,
And time itself stands cold and still.
A rusted key locks out the light,
The heavy timber blocks the sun,
While through the corridors of night,
The restless specters walk as one.
The dampness seeps into the floor,
As autumn winds begin to groan,
And footsteps fade behind the door,
Like scraping dust from brittle bones.
