The Acorn Quest

Written for Sunday Whirl Wordle.
Here are Brenda’s prompt words:

anchor, search, moment, laugh, find, inhibits,
comfort, always, want, squirrel, spaz, auto

Image by Me & Gemini

A squirrel set off on a frantic search
For an acorn he’d hidden somewhere by the church.
He’d dropped a pine cone as an anchor, you see,
But the wind rolled it off to some other tree.

He zigzags the street like a caffeinated spaz,
Dodging each auto with daring pizzazz.
The honking of horns? It inhibits him not;
When a squirrel’s in want, he gives all that he’s got.

At last, in a moment of glorious luck,
He spies his lost prize by the wheel of a truck.
With a laugh, he declares as he settles to dine,
“I can always find comfort in these acorns so fine!”

  1. Nancy, this is pure joy! The image of a squirrel dashing through traffic, ignoring honking horns, completely obsessed with finding that one acorn, it’s hilarious and endearing all at once. The way you’ve woven in the prompt words feels effortless, and the ending (contentment by the truck’s wheel) is perfectly satisfying. Loved this!
