Written for Val’s Haiku Scavenger Hunt
#6 where we are asked to write a troiku.

cold wind shakes the trees
ghouls and goblins come alive
ghosts fade through the mist
cold wind shakes the trees
screaming shadows chase the moon
on this spooky night
ghouls and goblins come alive
glowing jack sees all
laughing in the dark
ghosts fade through the mist
vanishing into the gray
gone without a sound

Nancy’s Notes: A Troiku (“trio”) consists of the initial Haiku, where each line in succession becomes the 1st line of 3 additional Haiku (like a sleigh followed by horses). Because the 2nd line of the original haiku is 7 syllables there is poetic license for that stanza as long as the total syllable count per stanza equals 17.

It is a nice day here after a lot of rain that we got, and I will put up the scarecrow and the ghost Halloween decorations today.

Yay! A spooky poem about ghosts, and a new poetry form, too. Very good and fun to read. Also, that is a great song. 🙂
