Water Lilies: An Ode

Upon the mirror of the quiet pond,
Where ripples fade and shadows softly blend,
The purple lilies wake and rise beyond
The dark depths where their slender stems ascend.

With crowns of royal violet and gold,
They rule the water, elegant and still,
While emerald leaves like floating shields unfold,
And liquid diamonds all their edges fill.

Adorned with morning dew and falling rain,
They celebrate the light of passing days,
A fleeting grace that washes away pain,
And leaves us captured in a silent praise.

O stars of water, blooming from the mud,
You teach the soul to rise and find its bloom,
To open wide the petals of the bud,
And cast a quiet beauty through the gloom.

  4. A distinctly beautiful poem, and a beautiful soundtrack, and yes, the poem was in my Henry Lawson collection, Illustrated by Pro Hart (famous Australian painter) my dear friend … my photo doesn’t quite do it justice …
