Written for Sadje’s weekly query:
What Do You See?

White as winter’s softest snow,
Guarding woods where shadows grow,
Silent watchman eyes aglow,
Resting on a fallen tree.
Spreading wings to meet the night,
Drifting in a ghostly flight,
Vanishing from human sight,
Searching for a midnight prey.
Hark, a sudden, lonely cry,
Echoing across the sky,
As the starry hours go by,
Deep within the frosty air.
Claws that grip the icy bark,
Fierce protector in the dark,
Leaving not a single mark,
Fading when the sun awakes.
