Our gracious host, Rochelle, is asking us to get
creative in 100 words or less using the photo
seen below. This is Friday Fictioneers.

The shelf had two rules: never turn on the light and never make eye contact.
The doll heads didn’t move…..not exactly….but by the time Estelle reached the shelf near the bottom, the porcelain baby doll in the pale yellow dress had turned to face the room, instead of the window. Curious, Estelle switched on a night light.
The blue and green glass jars hummed faintly, the sound of an old familiar song from her mother’s phonograph….a melody that had been silent for years.
Estelle looked at the baby doll and smiled; the porcelain face slowly smiled back….its outstretched hand beckoning.

That gave me a chill. Run away from that doll. Give it to the creepy kid down the block. They can be best friends.

Dear Nancy,
My parents got me a Patty Playpal doll as a gift for having my tonsils out. I had the worst nightmares about her coming to life…even into my adult years. Kicked that spooky girl to the curb.
Really creepy story. Put me in mind of Talky Tina. Remember her? https://www.youtube.com/embed/-QND2dJ4l9k
Good one.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Thanks very much, Rochelle.
Oh, I’d forgotten about both Patty Playpal (which I also had) and Talky Tina! Was that Telly Savalas??
I don’t remember the occasion but my parents gave me a Patty Playpal and my sister got a Terry Walker. For some reason (ha!) I put my sister’s Terry Walker through the wringer in our old fashioned washing machine; Terry didn’t walk too well after that! My sister was royally PO’d at me and wanted revenge but my parents wouldn’t stand for it and being the obedient one, she left my Patty Playpal alone. I don’t think she’s ever forgiven me!

“Don’t take her hand, Estelle! It’s a trap!” 🙂 Great story, Nancy. There’s a reason for those rules, clearly. Loved it.
Have a good weekend,
David

Thanks, Sandra. This has been a mini therapy session and I’m only now fully realizing my lifelong aversion to dolls.
