seen below. This is Friday Fictioneers.
The shelf had two rules: never turn on the light and never make eye contact.
The doll heads didn’t move…..not exactly….but by the time Estelle reached the shelf near the bottom, the porcelain baby doll in the pale yellow dress had turned to face the room, instead of the window. Curious, Estelle switched on a night light.
The blue and green glass jars hummed faintly, the sound of an old familiar song from her mother’s phonograph….a melody that had been silent for years.
Estelle looked at the baby doll and smiled; the porcelain face slowly smiled back….its outstretched hand beckoning.
