Tight Squeeze

Written for Esther’s Writing Prompt
using the prompt word ‘label’.

The label whispered “hand wash cold,”
a gentle plea, both clear and bold.
I laughed, tossed in with towels and jeans
now my pink sweater is aquamarine!

The dryer hummed a cheerful song
while cotton shrank both wide and long.
My favorite shirt, once XL grand,
now barely fits my husband’s hand!

So heed the tiny symbols there ….
that triangle’s not just for flair.
Bleach it, boil it, learn too late:
your wardrobe met a shrinking fate.
