Common Ground

Written for Living Poetry where Bart asks us
to write a poem incorporating the words
‘common’, ‘rise’, and ‘Wordsworth’.

In common fields where daylight starts to rise,
I walk the paths that Wordsworth might have known.
No mountain peak, no vast and storied skies,
Just dew-lit grass and morning sunlight, shone.

He found in simple things a kind of light,
A common flower worth a poet’s gaze.

So I look up and let my spirit rise
To meet the ordinary with my praise.
