Written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt
where she asks us to get creative in exactly 99
words using the prompt word ‘inkling’ and for
Gerry & Sue’s Weekly Prompts – The One Day
Prompt. Here’s where the prompts took me.

Kelly slipped into the third-floor bathroom, the one nobody used, and took the test. She shoved the result in her jacket pocket and walked straight into the 9 a.m. briefing.
For forty minutes, she sat across from Daniel… her manager, her secret… and watched him click through quarterly projections.
She knew one day this might happen but had no inkling what his reaction would be.
When the room emptied, she slid the test across the table.
He looked up, his eyes unreadable.
“A baby? For real?”
She smiled weakly.
Five seconds later they were passionately kissing, laughing and crying.

Brilliant! I love happy endings. But contrary to Newpicauthor’s comment, I don’t think they need to be married. 🙂

Thanks very much, Sue. I’m glad you enjoyed this one. I’m with you on not needing to get married. Many single parents do just fine on their own. 😊

One of my daughters has been with her partner for sixteen years, they live together in the home they bought together and have two children together, but show no sign of getting married.

That works perfectly for them and they should be congratulated. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Sue.

A happy blessing, but I hope they get married for the sake of the baby.

Well I’m glad they were both happy about it – could have gone in a completely different direction- but I’m glad it didn’t- great storytelling in so few words👏

This was not my first ending choice, but at the last minute I changed directions. I’m glad I did. Thanks very much, Ange 🥰

It wasn’t my first choice for an ending, but I decided to give these two something to look forward to. Thanks, CA.
