Written for dVerse Poets Quadrille Monday –
“Toot Toot” hosted by Lisa who invites us to
get creative with the word ‘horn’ in just 44
words. Here’s where the prompt took me.

He struts the crossroads, adorned in red,
a long twisted horn jammed into his head.
He’ll steal your name, he’ll steal your soul,
displease him once, he’ll swallow you whole.
No sympathy for what he’s done,
yet still we dance when he has won.

This is “Sympathy for the Devil” by The Rolling Stones
Everything on The Elephant’s Trunk was created by me, unless otherwise indicated. Thanks for your consideration. NAR©2017-present.

The closing line turns the mirror back on us and it isn’t pretty. Excellent write Nancy 👏

We do tend to dance to his tune, don’t we?! You’ve mastered the rhyme and rhythm so wonderfully here, Nancy — a perfect fit for the theme.

Nancy, he’s an insidious one alright. I love that first line. The crossroads is where he is most successful. Great write to the prompt word.

Thanks very much, Lois. I agree, but let’s see what our friend Ivor came up with. He sure has a way of finding rare music!

I was also thinking of ‘The Devil Came Down to Georgia.” Ivor always has some good one that I had not heard before!
