After the Downpour: A Chōka

Written for Tanka Tuesday where our host,
Yvette, invites us to write any form of poem
about resilience using the image shown below.
Here’s where the prompt took me.

Rain hammers the stem,
yet the buds hold their color…
crimson, unashamed.
Each drop a small surrender
leaves refuse to make.
Glossy green stands firm and strong,
drinking what would drown
another, roots hushed, unseen,
knowing how storms become spring.
