Dragging: An American Cinquain

Written for Cinquain Poetry Prompt
where our inspiration is “tired”.
This is my cinquain.

So tired
bone-deep, soul-worn,
the kind sleep cannot cure,
carrying what no one else can
see there.

Day folds,
light growing thin,
the sky itself exhales,
even the sun surrenders to
the dark.

Sit down.
Let the quiet
settle ‘round your shoulders
like a blanket from you mother….
rest now.

Morning.
Something shifted.
The tired has gone somewhere.
You rise, not new, but more yourself
than before.

  1. That’s so nice! I enjoyed reading it. When one gets tired, they rest and/or take a nap. The next day, they’ll wake up feeling energized.

I love the last verse! 👍☺️
