Written for David’s Wea’ve Written Weekly.
Yvette is our PoW this week; her prompt is
to write a poem of 20 lines or less about a
utopian or dystopian world. This is my take –
a whimsical, fantasy world of food.

In a land where the calories simply don’t count,
Where chocolate flows freely from each mountain fount,
The pizza grows wild on the vine every spring,
And donuts are worn as a crown for the king.

The broccoli tastes like gumdrops of red,
And nobody ever must get out of bed
Before ten in the morning …. the coffee’s self-poured ….
And bacon is deemed the most noble award.

The ice cream is endless, the flavors divine,
The cheeseburgers pair with an elegant wine,
No dish needs a washing, no pot needs a scrub,
The leftovers dance on their own to the tub.

The cake at the party renews every slice,
Sweet tea on a hot day with plenty of ice,
The bread’s always warm with butter that melts
And everyone’s wearing elastic-waist belts.

Here Mondays are outlawed, the Fridays are long,
And dessert before dinner is surely not wrong
Oh bring me that world where the feasting won’t cease,
Where every last crumb is a taste meant to please.

  6. A tasty take, Nancy.. but not what I needed to read right now as I’m currently dieting in the hope I’ll be able to get into my Summer clothes, all of which seem to have shrunk – well, that’s my excuse!

  17. Just out of bed, no breakfast yet (& only2 sips of coffee) and you got my hungry stomach growling. Gotts go see if my morning meal has prepared itself…
