I have chosen Pic #2.
Here’s where the image took me.

The wave caught LT10 broadside and shoved her up the sandy shingle like a dismissal.
Ian didn’t fight it. Thirty years on this coast had taught him the sea’s moods better than his own, and today she was done with him. Get off, then. Fair enough.
He stepped out into the foam, boots already soaked, and took the bow rope in both hands. The next wave helped …. grudgingly …. pushing the hull another foot up the beach.
His grandfather had landed here the same way. No harbor, no crane, no ceremony. Just a man and a boat and the haggling between them and the water.
The seagulls were already gathering, noisy and presumptuous.
“Not yet,” he told them.
He hauled again. The pebbles grated beneath the hull like applause …. or a warning. With this coast, one could never be sure.

That first sentence! Shoved her up the sandy shingle like a dismissal.
You got the rhythm, the sound, the image…all of it!

Thanks! I agree! Tell me, J …. does the title I used sound familiar? You may have to dig deep for that one.

I thought it was referring to the way they just slid their flat bottom boats right up on the shores but if there’s more fill me in.

You’re right about that, but also, Crispina used the phrase “Landing, Viking style”when she first posted her photos. The title is my little nod to her. 😉

Ok. Yeah I did recognize that but I thought the same thing about it when she posted it 😊

Brilliant Nance, you establish a deep sense of history and character in just a few short paragraphs. Ian isn’t‘beating’ the sea he’s just trying to get a fair deal out of it for one more day 🙌

Thanks so much, Ange. I have spent more than 50 years listening to my husband’s fishing stories and have accumulated more nautical lingo that I ever thought I would …. one of the benefits to being the wife of an angler 😀 So glad to know you enjoyed this one. 🎣
