Written for dVerse Poets Quadrille Monday –
“Hunger Makes the Best of Poetry” –
where our host, Lisa, is serving up
the word “hunger”. Here is my quad.

Fridge light shines different
when the whole house is asleep
and you’re all alone –
that hunger isn’t really hunger,
you know what I mean?
More like something missing
that cold pizza won’t fix,
but you eat it anyway,
standing there in your socks.

Nancy, eating disorders are no joke. The song accompaniment showed me where you were coming from with your poem. As Lynn said about “spiritual starvation,” its symptoms can manifest with all kinds of addictions.

Lisa, my quad is really about filling a void, whether it’s food or anything else that takes away emptiness and pain. I hoped more readers would see that but it’s all in the individual eye. Thank you.

You’re welcome. Now if I get up at night, I have a banana or a couple of dates.
