Written for RDP, where leapingtoes asks
us to get creative with the word ‘broke’.
Here’s where the prompt took me.

Angelina was a total wreck! How could this happen so soon before Christmas? Her freezer, packed with all the food she prepared for the holidays, broke down and everything is ruined! Now she and her husband Tony will have to buy a new freezer and go to Stop & Shop to get all the things she needs to start cooking again. After all, the family is counting on her to prepare the Feast of the Seven Fishes for Christmas Eve and her famous manicotti for Christmas Day. Maybe her cousin Vinny at Best Buy can get her a new freezer with his fancy employee discount. He’s been bragging about it for years now; it’s about time that no good bum did something for the family. It’s Christmas, for crying out loud!

So frustrating, but it happens at times, Nancy.

Stop-n-Shop! Ours was owned by the Rini’s who lived at the end of our block, when I was a kid. Haven’t heard that name in forever!

Stop & Shop and ShopRite are the biggest supermarkets where we live. ShopRite is as big as a small city! People could live in ShopRite! There’s food obviously, they sell toiletries, bedding and mattresses, some clothes, TVs and some appliances, and there’s a bathroom. There’s Internet and plenty of parking! What more do you need? 🤣

‘the no good bum’ ‘for crying out loud!’ I’m Italian on my dad’s side and can hear my Aunt Mae saying this! What a mess but what a funny memory of my Aunt.

I’m so glad this gave you a fun memory, Lois! I’m Sicilian and my mother used to make all of these dishes for Christmas. I could just imagine what a catastrophe it would be if this happened to her. I think every family has somebody who’s the “no good bum”, don’t you think?

Love the story, but that is a nightmare … Fantastico answer to the prompt, and I can’t resist manicotti 😀 ~ Hope your holidays are perfectly sweet and everything functions (lol) properly, especially those cuzins!
