This story is one of several I have written for our
5-year-old granddaughter, Colette, for Christmas.
I can’t wait to read them with her.
Also in response to Missy’s Mad Challenge#069
and for Weekly Prompts Colour Challenge – “red”.
The Prompt: Just when the silence felt overwhelming, a sudden rustle in the underbrush caught the attention of a wandering soul.

It was the night before Christmas Eve. The forest was covered with a downy blanket of snow, creating a sense of peace and quiet joy. The only sound was the gentle whisper of the wind weaving through the tree branches. Just when the silence felt overwhelming, a sudden rustle in the underbrush caught the attention of a wandering soul. Ali, a curious young girl, had ventured into the woods to search for the perfect tree. Of course, she brought seeds for her friends, the forest birds. Hearing the rustling noise, she crept closer and peeked around an enormous spruce tree. Her eyes grew wide with wonder.
There, in a clearing strung with twinkling lights, stood a gathering of reindeer unlike any she had ever imagined. They wore festive scarves and garlands, their antlers dusted with snow that sparkled in the lamplight. At the center of them all stood a magnificent reindeer with the brightest, reddest nose Ali had ever seen. It glowed like a warm ember, casting a rosy light across the snowy ground.
“Rudolph,” Ali whispered to herself, hardly daring to believe it.
Nearby was a table laden with stacks of pancakes drizzled with honey, bowls of cranberries, and steaming mugs that smelled of cinnamon and pine. Little stuffed woodland creatures in knitted hats sat among the gifts piled beneath a glittering tree, and even the forest itself seemed to lean in close, as if listening to the celebration.
Ali must have made a sound, for suddenly all the reindeer turned to look at her. She froze, her heart hammering. But Rudolph simply smiled and called out in a voice as warm as summer sunshine, “Well now, don’t be shy! Any friend of the forest is a friend of ours. Come, join our party!”
With trembling steps, Ali emerged from behind the tree. The reindeer gathered around her kindly, their dark eyes gentle and welcoming. A small bear in a blue sweater offered her a cup of hot cocoa, while two young fawns showed her the presents they’d wrapped for the forest animals.
“You see,” Rudolph explained, his nose glowing bright red with pride, “every year before the big flight, we gather here to celebrate the magic of giving. We share what we have with the creatures of the woods, and remind ourselves what Christmas is really all about …. bringing light and warmth wherever darkness falls.”
Ali sat at the table, surrounded by the kindest company she’d ever known. They shared stories and songs, laughter and treats, while the snow fell softly around them and the stars peeked through the branches above. When it was time to leave, Rudolph walked Ali to the edge of the clearing. “Remember,” he said softly, his red nose casting a gentle glow; “The true magic of Christmas lives in every act of kindness, every moment of joy shared. Carry that light of peace and love with you, and you’ll never lose your way.” Ali nodded, her heart full to bursting.
And now, though many years had passed, Ali never forgot the night she stumbled upon Rudolph’s Christmas party. It was there where she learned that the greatest gifts of all are friendship, kindness, and the light we share with one another in the darkest of times.

Thank you, Cindy. Colette loves her story time and I know she’s going to really enjoy this one. I did create the image with the help of an app called Leonardo, This is something very new and I’m having great fun designing the images, and by designing I mean, describing the scene and the app creates it. It’s really amazing.

Your beautifully enchanting Christmas story brought tears of joy to my eyes, thank you kindly for sharing it with us my friend … 😍🌏🤶🦌 … this is not a Christmas song, but in the middle of the north of Iceland, I imagine the region around Varmahlíð, to be a very kind, warm and inviting place to be, just like Rudolph’s Christmas party, Nancy …

She has a lovely, pretty name.

Yes, we were surprised by the typically French-sounding name since there isn’t an ounce of French on either side of the family. All our grandchildren have rather unusual names and they fit them perfectly. Thank you, Sue.
