If you love the Kinks (and who doesn’t), you’re gonna love Weird Al’s “Yoda” … a parody of the Kink’s song, “Lola”. The very clever “Lola” lyrics tell the story of a young man’s encounter with a transgender woman at a London club. The narrator is initially confused by Lola’s appearance and mannerisms, but ultimately accepts and becomes infatuated with her. Al’s song “Yoda” has nothing to do with London clubs or transgenders but, let’s face it … very little is known about Yoda. We don’t know what species Yoda is or Yoda’s sexual identify. Haven’t you wondered if Yoda is male or female? Well, after extensive research, I learned that Yoda is definitely male. And no, I did not peek under his robe! The name ‘Yoda’ is used to refer to all males of the species (whatever species that is!) while the females are called ‘Yaddle’. Who knew? The weird stuff you learn when you hang with me!
Since the demo version of “Yoda” had been so popular, Al wanted to include it on one of his albums. Securing permission from both George Lucas and the Kinks, however, was easier said than done. Although Lucas eventually gave Al permission, the song’s publishers turned him down. “Yoda” might have remained unreleased had it not been for a chance encounter between Al and Ray Davies, who wrote “Lola“. When Al asked him why he had not given his permission, Davies responded that he had never been asked! Davies gave the ok and the song was released on Al’s third album, Dare To Be Stupid.

    1. Me too! And what are the odds for a chance meet? Great luck! Ok, this isn’t one of Al’s hilarious numbers but it’s very clever and that’s definitely of his talents I appreciate. Yoda is an excellent parody and great fun! Thanks, Christian.

      1. Yes indeed, Nancy … last night I was under that heavy cloud called ‘tiredness’ … sometimes I feel too slow and old for this WP blogging world, especially when my ‘stroke fatigue’ rears its ugly head … 🙂😴

        1. I can just imagine! We put too much pressure on ourselves, at least that’s true for me, and I don’t know how to stop it. I comment on many posts and reply to scores of emails. The pressure is very real, it’s time consuming and I see no easy way out other than not replying at all which would be terribly rude. 🤷🏼‍♀️👩🏼‍💻😵‍💫
