Written for Ovi Poetry Challenge #98.
This week’s inspiration word is
“survive”. Keeping with the year’s
theme of positivity, this is my Ovi.

In the storm where hope seems to hide
A single spark will not subside
Survive with courage as your guide
Though the tempest’s roar
In shadows where fear takes its toll
Find strength within, let it grow bold
In the face of woe, all feels cold
Be brave of heart
In sorrow, when tears fall like rain
When all the world has gone insane
Hold fast, the sun will rise again
Allow stillness of mind
Sometimes choices can confound
Seek clarity, let it be found
When in chaos stand firm and sound
Calm shall prevail

These are such reassuring and inspiring words.
You know what Nancy, I always assumed this song was a Post Beatles Harrison song. The sound and production is just so crisp.

These started out as little motivational messages I would write to myself after one of my surgeries didn’t go as expected. When the Ovi came to my attention, I saw a way to turn my messages into poems. I very pleased to know people like them. Thank you so much, Liz! 😊

Thank you, Matt. I write these Ovis as words of encouragement to myself. I’m glad to know others enjoy them as well.
George started writing Here Comes the Sun in early ’69 and it’s one of the tracks on Abbey Road, as you know. He wrote some beautiful songs during that period, when John & Paul wouldn’t give him credit for doing much of anything.

Yes, I found myself reflecting over what you wrote a lot – almost word for word. And it was illuminating to say the least.
‘Here Comes the Sun’ always sounded to me strictly a George song and I understand it was his more or less. I’m familiar from research how George was nearly consistently outted from being part of the songwriting ensemble. Sad really, but I think he has more than made up for it, in retrospect.

I should have also mentioned how my daughter has George’s ‘Give Me Love’ on her mobile calls. I can’t blame her really since I think it is one of the greatest songs I’ve ever heard.

Totally agree! As I’ve said before many times: There’s not a single thing wrong with a George Harrisong!

Nancy, I really liked “Survive with courage as your guide / Though the tempest’s roar”—it gave the whole piece a steady heartbeat. Feels like you planted resilience in me just by saying it out loud.
Much love,
David
