Ovi Poem

Dancing Machine

Written for Ovi Poetry Challenge #86.
This week’s inspiration word is
“energy”. Keeping with this year’s
theme of positivity, this is my Ovi.

Where does she get such power
Practicing hour after hour
This is no delicate flower
She is strong

She hits the gym before work
One guy there is such a jerk
He only wants to see her twerk
She is determined

She works hard for the money
Lots of guys who call her honey
Looking to try something funny
She is a force

Foolish advances she will spurn
Those guys have a lot to learn
Try to touch her and they will burn
She is invincible

Her energy is running high
As she reaches for the sky
She won’t stop, she’s got to try
She is woman

  1. Reading this is uncanny timing for me. I joined a new Gym yesterday because my favourite gym is being renovated. Towards the end of my session there was a ‘dancing machine’ girl right beside me, just like the one you described above. Even the image is eerily similar to her.
She was a force to be reckoned with. In between her pull-downs she was dancing like a rumba specialist and also talking to someone on her wireless ear phones. My 51 years couldn’t keep up, even just looking at her ‘with such power’.

  2. I was mesmerized by this movie when I originally saw it in the 80’s- but- there’s always a but isn’t there- I watched it not too long ago and was left a little flat. I don’t know what changed in me, but it just no longer had the punch for me it once had. Still, Jennifer Beals was amazing.
