At Morn

Written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt #401
using the word “quagmire” and Eugi’s Moonwashed
Weekly Prompt
with the required word “drizzly”.
In exactly 63 words, this is my story.

Fog rolls in this drizzly winter morn. No trill of bird, no rustle of leaves – only a chill, stillness in the gray air. A mist embraces the shore, almost obscuring the silhouettes of two pens and their mates enjoying a leisurely swim across the smokey quagmire, their downy cygnets too drowsy in their cozy nest to venture out. The sun begins its ascent.
