Once upon a time I was writing music blogs for a great little site called The Rhythm Section (TRS). Some of you followed my posts there; others were unaware of the site’s existence. As of a few days ago, The Rhythm Section was officially shut down.
I had the dream of starting my own music blog and gave it a great deal of thought; unfortunately, too many things got in the way. In the end I decided I had neither the time nor the ambition to maintain two sites and give both the attention they deserve.
I spent a lot of time working on TRS and thought “what a shame to let everything I wrote simply fade away”. And so I’m moving on, away from forces and people who drag me down and doing more of what makes me happy … like making one site out of two.
With that thought in mind, I have transferred every one of my posts from The Rhythm Section and incorporated them into The Elephant’s Trunk; they are all here in chronological order, tucked away between my stories, poems and other music posts. While looking them over, I have discovered some graphics did not survive the transfer; that’s unfortunate but it’s the chance we take when moving a lot of data around. Fortunately, the text and videos are intact.
I invite you, if you are so inclined, to check out TRS posts; they are dated March 2, 2023 and run through December 31, 2023. You’ll find them.
I hope you enjoy the words I have written and the music I have chosen.
See you on the flip side. 😎

Glad you moved all of your stuff over to this site! Do you know why the blog shut down? Who ran it?

Thanks, CA. It just ran it’s course.

Will you continue to create new TRS posts on your site?

I’ll continue writing new music blogs but they will not be under the name of The Rhythm Section; I never had full ownership of that domain so it’s a moot point. All music posts will be found in The Elephant’s Trunk, as they have been since January, 2024. I have not decided if I’ll continue using categories such as At The Movies, In The Groove, I’m With The Banned, Motown Memories or Metal Madness;. time will tell.
Thanks for asking, D; I appreciate your interest. You’ll know where to find me!

I don’t know how you produce so much for one blog, never mind two!
My husband was a HUGE Led Zep fan. He knew every single song by heart and would sing along as he was doing whatever, stopping now and again to do a Robert Plant move with his hands… Sigh…

Honestly, Dale …. I have no idea. 🤷🏼♀️
Your mister sounds like he was quite a guy. Mine is tone deaf but that doesn’t stop him from singing. 😂

Haha! Far beyond my capabilities.
He really was. And that’s hilarious. They all have their “things”.

Mine is funny as hell, really dry wit – not that slapstick humor – and cracking smart. And a huge help around the house!

Mick was, too. He had me in stitches all the time. And he was amazing help. Actually, he did way more than I did!

OMGosh, Dale. So does Bill! When I had my knee surgery in 2011, he started doing the laundry and making a couple of small trips to the supermarket each week. He still does the laundry (he washes and dries/I fold) and goes shopping 2-3 times each week (easier than 1 big trip). And he’s a very hands-on Grampy, too. I’m pretty lucky!

Sweet. I remember saying to my sister that I wish I had a self-cleaning oven. She said, but you do! I said, no I don’t. You have Mick! He always cleaned my ovens 😉 Now, dammit… I am doomed to do it myself.

Ummm… He lives in Lancaster, PA and I’m in Boucherville, QC. We are each other every 3-4 months for a week at a time…

You have given a lot of thought to this. And probably sighing with relief that the deed is done. We/I may not understand all that you did but will follow along. 🙂 And like your avatar too.

Thanks, Sighs. Anything worth doing requires a lot of thought. I’m not very special, but thanks just the same.
My music posts from TRS are included right here on this site. The first one is March 2, 2023. Here’s a link.

Glad you like my pic! Hubby took it. 😊

Nice new avatar! Is there a specific link for these posts, or are they in your ‘music blog’ section?

Thanks! It was time to come out of hiding. 😂
Excellent question. Maybe I should have attached one in my posts links. This will take you to the very first one; after that they’re all just mingled among my other posts.

My posts are labeled “At The Movies”, “In The Groove” and “Name That Tune”. I see some posts from other contributors also came through; I’m pretty sure if you click on them, you’ll get an error message. I’ll weed them out eventually.
Thanks, Clive. Something to look at in your spare time.

Thanks for that link, which I’ll follow. Just a thought, but would it be worth combining these under one heading? That would make it easier for us to find them.

Thanks, Clive!
That may happen but not just yet. It was imperative for me to transfer my posts before TRS was shut down or else I would have lost everything. I’ll think about your suggestion when the dust settles. I’m trying to avoid creating more work for myself.

I can understand that, and am glad you managed to make the transfer in time. No pressure, just take it as you feel, but I suspect there will be many who would read them.

Following WP’s instructions (🙄🤦🏼♀️) I was able to create a Parent Category called The Rhythm Section and very neatly added all the posts from TRS as subcategories. BUT … there’s always a but … all the subcategories are listed (you can see them when you scroll all the way down) BUT The Rhythm Section is not listed as a Parent Category.
A work in progress! 😬

That can be frustrating can’t it! I’ll test it out 😊

Haha! Now I have a duplicate list of subcategories and still no TRS Parent Category. 🤯

Good to hear. Losing writing when websites go off line is a fear of mine.
