βMore coffee, Marshall dear?β
βDonβt mind if I do, Peg darling. Itβs very good tonight.β
βOh, Iβm glad you like it. I tried a new brand.β
βInteresting. Itβs not like you to try new things.β
βReally, Marshall? You donβt think so?β
βNo, I donβt. Youβre quite steadfast, you know.β
βSteadfast. Are you comparing me to a dog, Marshall?β
βNonsense, Peg. Youβre reliable, dependable. No surprises.β
βOh, so Iβm dull. No surprises. Weβll see about that.β
βNow, donβt get in a snit, Peg. Weβll see about what?β
βIβm not in a snit, Marshall. And I do have a surprise.β
βDo tell, Peg. Now Iβm a bit curious.β
βIβve been having an affair.β
βAn affair, you say? May I ask with whom?β
βYes, of course. Jack, the milkman. Are you surprised?β
βNo, not really, Peg. Canβt say I am.β
βWell, Iβm certain you didnβt know. Why arenβt you surprised?β
βEasy, darling. Most affairs for housewives are with the milkman. Convenience.”
βI suppose thatβs true β¦ quite convenient, yes.β
βNow if you had said my brother,Β that would have raised an eyebrow.β
βAnd why is that, Marshall?β
βBecause, Peg dear, we only see my brother once a year.β
βGood point. Another cup of coffee, Marshall darling?β

I was hoping that the milkman was Marshall’s brother.

π When I was writing this (which was totally on the fly) I was going to have Peg admit to an affair with Marshall’s brother but I went with the milkman.
That’s a funny line, Misky!

I’m not sure I’d take that second cup of coffee…

π No worries. I afraid poor Peg is a bit too uninspired to think of something like that

LOL plus…the song was used for a commercial…showing how old I am …”Let’s have another cup of coffee, let’s have a cup of Nescafe…”

Well, he took that better than expected, somehow I think she found the lack of reaction more frustrating. Great little story.

Yes, indeed. Makes one wonder if he even believes her. I, for one, don’t. π π
Thanks, Sweets! Glad you enjoyed this little exercise in dry wit.
