Eco de la Sangre (Echo of the Blood): A Seguidilla

Written for Tanka Tuesday. Our host, Yvette,
asks us to write a poem celebrating ancestry.
I have chosen a Seguidilla in honor of
Hispanic Heritage Month

Abuela plants the seed,
In the rich brown soil,
Guiding the girl’s gentle hands
Through their loving toil.
Roots of yesterday
Grow through generations now
In their honored past.

Nancy’s Notes: The seguidilla is a seven-line musical verse form that alternates 7-syllable and 5-syllable lines (7-5-7-5-5-7-5) with a distinct thematic or structural pause in the middle
