Written for Reena’s Xploration Challenge.
Reena asks us to respond to any or all of her
prompts. I have written a double reverse
cinquain on the noise of everyday things.

alarms
sudden shrill scream
ringing phones crack the peace
banging on a new week’s front door
it starts
morning
urban street noise echoes loudly
traffic’s constant humming
shaken and stirred
life calls
horns honk
blaring loudly
truck brakes screech jarringly
people yelling “I’m walking here!”
heads spin
clocks tick
one second follows another
at last evening arrives
the city sleeps
again

Reading it on a Monday morning brings it so close to reality. For this is the life I’ve led for decades, till WFH gave some reprieve.
