The autumn ground was littered with unusually large spiked chestnut husks, pulsing with a faint, bioluminescent violet glow. Under the pale moonlight, the bristling needles began to part. A wet, tearing sound echoed through the silent woods as the armor cracked wide open. From the shadows within, glassy, multifaceted eyes blinked against the cool air. Slender, iridescent limbs tipped with delicate hooks unfurled, gripping the damp earth. The entities slithered out, leaving behind empty, thorny shells, their soft chittering signaling an awakening that the sleeping world was entirely unprepared to face.
