Reflections of Gold: A Garland Kimo

Written for Val’s Haiku Scavenger Hunt #11
where we’re asked to write a Garland Kimo.

Also for Sadje’s What Do You See and the image below.

the calm, glassy lake, a forest on fire
a lonely boat glides softly
where waters are still

green, orange, and red, a canvas of change
water mirrors every shade
the woods are at peace

sentinel pines guarding a deep stillness
a vessel crosses the glass
reflections of gold

the calm, glassy lake, a forest on fire
water mirrors every shade
reflections of gold

Nancy’s Notes: The Garland Kimo is a variation on the Kimo, which has 3 lines with a syllable count of 10/7/6. The Garland Kimo is a series of 3 Kimo with a 4th Kimo formed from the previous three verses, using line 1 from verse 1, line 2 from verse 2, and line 3 from verse 3.

This is “The Flame Trees of Thika” from the movie of the same name.
