bronze hands cup a leaf
a pigtailed girl kneels to learn
what old palms still hold
bronze hands cup a leaf
summer caught in metal veins
it will never fall
a pigtailed girl kneels to learn
her eyes lift to his
worn soles face the sky
what old palms still hold
he offers like a secret
the grass keeps growing

Nancy’s Notes: A Troiku is a form which consists of the initial Haiku where each line in succession becomes the 1st line of 3 additional Haiku. Because the 2nd line is 7 syllables there is poetic license for that stanza as long as the syllable count equals 17.

Oh Nancy. My heart is bursting at the seams. So lovely. I’ve not heard of troiku before. I love learning something new. And that song choice was the perfect musical interlude. Thank you for joining in. This truly makes my day.

Jill, the photo of this sculpture, combined with your personal journey, touched my heart. So many of us take for granted having parents or being parents; it’s just the natural order of things. That isn’t the case for everyone, as you so poignantly remind us. Thank you so much for your beautiful comments and inspiring photo. 🤎
