Our gracious host, Rochelle, is asking us to get
creative in 100 words or less using the photo
seen below. This is Friday Fictioneers.

The attic hummed, vibrating slightly. Nestled in the rafters, a swirling gray Papier-mâché-like hive pulsed with life.
Nathan stepped closer, drawn by the rhythmic thrum. The hornets guarding the aperture stopped squirming. Suddenly, the nest unspooled, unfolding… not into a swarm but a single colossal, terrifying entity. The low hum escalated into a deafening scream; there was no escape.
Days later, Nathan’s mother climbed the stairs to the empty attic. A huge, pristine nest hung in the rafters. She reached for a can of bug spray, completely unaware of a familiar, pale face shrieking inside the papery chamber.

Thanks very much, Jim. I’m not a fan of the stinging buggers!

They are inactive at night and that is when you have to spray them.

I didn’t know that! What I did know is you’re not supposed to stomp them because the squish scent will attract other hornets and then you’ll be in deep shit!

I think they say the same thing about cockroaches.

Thank goodness we’ve never had a bug problem. The thought of cockroaches skeeves me out.

Cockroaches do not have venom and do not attack humans, but they can carry harmful bacteria and they are very creepy.

For the last few years we had paper wasps making their nests under the eaves in our back yard. Someone told me about these decoy nests, sort of like Japanese lantern, and I purchased some and hung them up. Not a single nest this year! Apparently, they won’t nest in other wasps’ territories. Love it. No chemicals!
