The attic hummed, vibrating slightly. Nestled in the rafters, a swirling gray Papier-mâché-like hive pulsed with life.
Nathan stepped closer, drawn by the rhythmic thrum. The hornets guarding the aperture stopped squirming. Suddenly, the nest unspooled, unfolding… not into a swarm but a single colossal, terrifying entity. The low hum escalated into a deafening scream; there was no escape.
Days later, Nathan’s mother climbed the stairs to the empty attic. A huge, pristine nest hung in the rafters. She reached for a can of bug spray, completely unaware of a familiar, pale face shrieking inside the papery chamber.
