Written for Thursday Inspiration-
“Tear It Up”
For this week’s Thursday Inspiration, Jim Adams asks us to respond to the challenge in any number of ways, including using the prompt word ‘leavin’, by means of the song ‘Tear It Up’ by The Cramps, or a song that is about having a wild, high-energy time while dancing and partying. I’ve chosen the last option in response to Jim’s challenge.

Last month on Thursday Inspiration, I featured the song “Let’s Dance”, a 1963 mega-hit by Chris Montez. At that time, I wrote this about the song:
“Let’s Dance” perfectly captures the carefree, youthful energy of the early 60s dance craze era, serving as a simple, joyful invitation to a romantic connection and shared experiences on the dance floor. The lyrics outline a classic teenage narrative: asking a crush to dance (“Hey, baby, won’t you take a chance?”), holding them close (“Hold me tight, don’t you let me go”), and hoping for a chance to walk them home afterward. The song presents dancing as a universal language for a connection that bypasses the need for heavy conversation or deeper commitment.
My post was very well received by you all back in July. One of my friends who commented on the Chris Montez video, was nice enough to share another version of the song which I totally loved (Thanks, Christian!). Now I’m sharing that video with you today. I don’t think there’s any other song that makes people want to get up and dance the way this one does. The duo in today’s video make the perfect pairing and I’m happy to feature it today. I hope you enjoy it.

Many thanks to Jim Adams for this week’s inspiration. Thanks to you all for stopping by for a look and a listen.
That’s all she wrote, kids.
See you on the flip side. 😎

Great selection, Nancy as it was nice seeing these two performers together doing the 1962 Chris Montez song followed by the 1983 David Bowie hit with the same name. In 1983, Bowie skipped a dinner with Capitol Records executives in New York to watch Turner perform at The Ritz, telling them he was going to see his favorite singer. Impressed by Bowie’s endorsement and Turner’s electric stage presence, the label executives agreed to sign her, helping launch her massive solo comeback with the album Private Dancer. In 1985, there was an incident when the two were on tour in the UK, where Turner’s assistant claimed Bowie emerged from a hotel bathroom stark naked wearing one of Turner’s wigs while singing to her, but Turner publicly denied ever sleeping with him.

Hahaha!! Nothing surprises me anymore, Jim, but now I can’t get the image of a naked Bowie in Tina’s wig out of my head! I’m glad you enjoyed the video; now I have an idea for an SLS theme: how about songs with the same name, not necessarily by the same artist (but bonus points if it is, lol). Have you done that theme?

It certainly is different and I hope people can find songs for this, but since song titles are not copyrighted so multiple songs can have the same name.

Now you’re really going to laugh. I misread your previous comment as “November 29, 2025” and thought “Damn, I suggested this last year?!?” – hence, my reference to memory cells. I am now officially ready for bed! Glad you like my idea, Jim. Night 😴

A great version! Ironically, Bowie had his own song with this title, but it didn’t belt along like this!

No, songs with the same name. Jim’s going with the idea for late Nov.
